October 15, 2008 · 5 Comments

AU mag this month release a compiled list of the top 50 Northern Irish songs of the magazine’s lifetime (since 2003) as selected by local musos. The issue celebrates their 50th issue and indeed NI’s recent talent with a sexy spot gold metallic ink cover with a CD featuring tracks from the top ten artists. At 100 pages thick, it’s makes for a meaty read too. Anyway, here’s my own top 10 list:

I heartily approve of both lists, particularly yours…..many chums in there so that’s good…..cashier no.9 will be the biggest thing to come out of here in years……mark my words……

    I hear you Man.

Certainly exciting times for Dan and the good ship CN9… the list is actually a great look at how far songwriting and recording has come in the past 5 years, and is perhaps more interesting than a top-50-ever type of list.

Very good list Eddie. My own went like this -

    1. ASIWYFA – The Machine
    2. We Are Knives – Two
    3. Boxcutter – Brood
    4. Lafaro – Tupenny Nudger
    5. Oppenheimer – Saturday Looks Bad To Me
    6. David Holmes – I Heard Wonders
    7. Defcon – Hand In The Fire
    8. RL/VL – Lake
    9. Panama Kings – Your Children Are Screaming
    10. Panda Kopanda – About My Temper

Sadly only 4 of them made it, and none of my top 3! Ah well, I’m pleased with how the list turned out. And by rights I should’ve had some Desert Hearts and Cashier No.9.

Phil, would love to see your choices… I spent about ten minutes on mine, then scapped it, then re-wrote and then again. The whole process took about ten years.

Chris, I like your selection…All killer cuts!
