…A disturbing thought, until you realise I speak of none other than a video of Belfast electronic maestros Men In Speedos trip-hop tune Gr8 Orbit (below) created as part of the Jukeboxes and Triggers project featuring the directing talent of Brian Philip Davis, both of whom feature on the NC podcast due out later this week.
Seamless Productions describe the video: “a young soul attempts to escape from a dreamlike state of euphoria before it turns into a nightmare.” Davis adds “The piece essentially explores life, death, decomposition and rebirth – it’s quite a simple narrative that is told visually… the music was already quite ambient (so) I didn’t want to create something that was going to distract from that – it was always intended to be a video that could be enjoyed on all levels of consciousness.”
Also, I cannot let Valentine’s Day pass without telling you about Future Shorts Feel The Love themed night of screenings in Queen’s Students’ Union Belfast Wednesday 27th February. Needless to say it will be an eclectic lineup of challenging films with more than a few seriously awe-inspiring moments. Intrigued? You should be. Doors 8pm and your 3 shiny pounds will buy you some time to watch powerful cinematic shorts in the company of friendly people and DJs.
Here’s the trailer:
And if that hasn’t got you in the mood (for love), here’s a fabulous short animation called ‘Changes‘ from Dublin’s Lorcan Finnegan. A caterpillar’s love life is a complicated thing indeed!
