Eddie Mullan’s No Clarity

Tunesday 1: Escape Act

Hot AirDear Reader, I present the very first “Tunesday”, featuring tunes on a Tuesday. Needless to say I got to bed about 2, 2:30 thinking that one up. First up to leave their cheese out in the No Clarity wind is Escape Act, and a track from their EP ‘Hot Air’.

A lesser reviewer would describe this EP using a phrase like ‘more hooks than a fishermans convention’, the truth is though, the production value on ‘Hot Air’ is shinier than Moby’s scone after a turkish shave and four hour wax massage. Sure, I haven’t much of a notion of what the band are on about with their napkins with nettles, perhaps dinner round the band member’s mums isn’t the tastiest, but these are the radio songs that really will provide a soundtrack to your summer. Cabin Fever (track 1) is currently doing the rounds on the indie blogs as ‘catchiest song right now’ but the MP3 available for 7 days on here is equal to that title.

The EP exhumes a lush melody driven summer vibe and isn’t dissimilar to material produced by local bands like Rivals or The Jane Bradfords and will attract the same kind of listener- one which doesn’t worry about the meaning of the songs, just the feeling. I think when they get on the road they’ll be received well wherever they go. Pop music is back in Belfast.

Catch them live next at Lavery’s Bunker, Belfast on Saturday 12th May or at the venue rapidly becoming a regular spot for Northern Irish bands to break the Southern audience, The Spirit Store, Dundalk on Friday 18th June.
